Stress Management Programme
Session 2
Welcome to Session 2 of your stress management programme!
In Session 1, we discussed some of the problems that arise when we try to control our thoughts and emotions, and how doing this can sometimes make us feel worse rather than better. Acceptance was offered as an alternative to this control strategy, and you practiced a mindfulness exercise which demonstrated how useful it can be to look at our thoughts from the perspective of an observer.
In this Session, we will continue to practice mindfulness exercises, as well as beginning to focus on the usefulness of values in our everyday and work lives.
This Session contains 4 separate Lessons:
-
Lesson 1 discusses how language can put us into the warzone with our thoughts and feelings, when we try to use it to explain them
-
Lesson 2 will ask you to practice another mindfulness exercise, called 'The Observer Exercise'
-
Lesson 3 gets you to challenge and confront your negative thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations by dismantling them into smaller, more manageable parts using 'The Tin Can Monster Exercise'
-
Finally, Lesson 4 will get you to identify your main values in your personal and professional life.
Thank you for your attention so far, and good luck with Session 2!
